The Prince Of Wales is an avid gardener and visited Kew Gardens last week as its patron to see the newly-restored Temperate House glasshouse, home to endangered plants. His royal biography page states the green-fingered royal heir most enjoys gardening in his Highgrove organic garden. A statement says: “The Prince enjoys hedgelaying and has hosted the National Hedgelaying Championships at Home Farm. “He has also laid many of the hedges on Home Farm himself.” Tonight’s episode will feature Gardeners’ World presenter and award-winning landscape designer Adam Frost who interviewed Prince Charles at Highgrove. What time will Prince Charles be on BBC Two tonight? The episode will air on BBC Two at 8pm. Charles’ love of gardens and British landscapes will be explored in the segment along with his personal battles with plant diseases. His Duchy of Cornwall estate, consisting of 53,000 hectares in 23 countries, has been a passion of the Prince of Wales since taking it over in 1969. Predominantly based in the south-west of England, the estate has been hit by Dutch Elm Disease, Ash Dieback and Phytophthora Ramorum. Prince Charles, an advocate of organic farming, will tell Mr Frost about the steps he has taken to protect his blooms and foliage. Mr Frost said of the interview: “Back in February I was invited to a meeting at Highgrove with members from across the horticultural industry to discuss the problem of pests and diseases and what could be done about them. “One of the outcomes was Action Oak – a campaign launched at the Chelsea Flower show to help protect our iconic oak. “It is made up of charities, environmental organisations and land owners who are using their combined knowledge to safeguard the beautiful trees. “Today the Prince has invited me back to Highgrove to explain why we as gardeners also need to do our bit.”What is the Duchy of Cornwall? The huge private estate was established by Edward III in 1337 and its revenues are passed on to Prince Charles, the current Duke of Cornwall. A duchy refers to a piece of land or territory ruled by a duke or duchess. The Duchy of Cornwall is one of two English royal duchies, the other being the Duchy of Lancaster. Prince Charles inherited the land as the Duke of Cornwall. The title is given to the eldest son of the reigning British monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II.
