Organic Farmer Gurdial Singh Ji gives us a tour of his innovative methods
Organic Farming has grown more popular and lucrative in Punjab, 'breadbasket of India,' once known as the "Golden Bird" for its abundant resources.
This resourceful farmer has chosen to diversify, to circulate his crops, and to form a 'Turmeric Group' of Punjabi farmers to meet the ever-increasing demand for high-quality, organic turmeric root, the health benefits of which are just beginning to be realized in many parts of the world outside of India, which has age-old traditions of using 'haldi' (turmeric), a root-spice used in cooking, for beauty, and for health.
In addition to turmeric, this enterprising farmer grows rice, wheat, sugarcane, lentils, and raises honey bees (and has his own water buffalos to satisfy his family's dairy needs).
Be inspired by this award-winning farmer who has taken a leading role in creating farming societies and promoting organic farming in Punjab.
